Emirates loses $50 million in income due to volcanic ash

Emirates incurred a total loss of $50 million (Dh183.5m) in revenues and had to ground 20% of its fleet as a result of the flight disruptions caused by the volcanic ash cloud from Iceland’s Eyjafjoell volcano.

The airline provided accommodation for around 6,000 passengers who were in transit when the disruption began and that over 80,000 passengers have been impacted by the disruption.

Etihad Airways, Qatar Airways, Oman Air and Gulf Air are other airlines which have all had to bear the consequences from the shutdown of UK and European airspace.
