Emirates to Begin Flights to Baghdad

Emirates Flights to BaghdadEmirates has announced that it will begin flights to Baghdad from Dubai in July this year. The airline is  the latest carrier to add flights to Iraq as the nation struggles to recover from war.

Emirates says the new route to Baghdad will be among 6 new routes introduced by the Dubai-based airline this year.

Emirates chairman Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum confirmed on Tuesday that the decision to add flights to Baghdad was made because of signs that Iraq is stabilizing more than 7 years after the 2003 U.S. led invasion.

The Baghdad flights also are a possible sign of the increase in Arab investment in Iraq’s oil and commercial sectors.

Last month, FlyDubai and Qatar Airways announced that they were adding flights to Iraq as well as Abu Dhabi-based Etihad Airways who also introduced a service to Baghdad.
