Big Bus Tours – Dubai Airport

Dubai Airport and Big Bus Tours have joined forces to provide an innovative new service which is specifically designed for transit passengers coming through Dubai Airport. Dubai Airport has experienced a huge amount of growth during the last few years which is partly due to the growth of the transit passenger sector.

Transit passengers do not have the opportunity to see the real Dubai and are often restricted to staying within the airport premises due to a lack of structured alternatives.

Due to launch summer 2010, Big Bus Tours will start operating regular scheduled sightseeing tours of Dubai that depart from, and return to Dubai Airport.

The tours are designed to showcase the best of Dubai and provide passengers with the opportunity to see something of the city whilst they are in Dubai with the goal of encouraging them to return at a later date to spend more time in Dubai, either on vacation or for business.

All transit passengers that are able to enter Dubai through the regular immigration channels and have enough time in transit will be able to hop on one of the famous open top double decker buses and see the best of Dubai in a specially designed 2 hour tour.

Chris Crompton, General Manager, Big Bus Tours UAE, said

“The launch of this service represents another groundbreaking initiative by Big Bus Tours and Dubai Airport. We have been working on this project for some time now and it is only with the cooperation and determination of the team at Dubai Airport that this project has become a reality”.

Eman Al Suwaidi, Head of Retail Services, Dubai International Airport, said

“Dubai International Airport has built a reputation for quality for all of our transit passengers and the addition of this tour to the services that are provided by the airport is key to our long term expansion plans. We are forecasting even more passengers to travel through Dubai this year and the inclusion of the Big Bus tour will allow all of them to experience the city of Dubai”.

The Big Bus Transit Tour of Dubai will depart from and return to Dubai Airport and last for approximately 2 hours. The tour is scheduled to start service in summer 2010.

    Shirley here,

I am willing to try the Big Bus Airport Tour, but is the Airport Tour a hop-on & hop-off sightseeing tour?

If not,can tourists get off from the bus to take a photo?

    Hi Cathleen,

Unfortunately there really is not any option other than to take a taxi from Dubai Airport into Dubai.

It may be worthwhile contacting Big Bus tours in any case to see if they can suggest anything.

    Kind Regards

I am transitting through Dubai Airport, arriving at 04.30am, departing at 10.25am, i believe i do not have enough time for Big Bus Tour. What would you recommend if i would like to have a quick tour on my own?

    Hi Gerhard,

This is an interesting question and we would advise you to contact the UAE embassy in South Africa to confirm whether or not you would need a Visa for Dubai.

For your reference we have included the contact details below to the UAE Embassy in South Africa. The best thing to do would be to send them an email or give them a call to see what they have to say. If you could let us know how you get on that would be great.

    South Africa UAE Embassy:

I am from South Africa. We will be arriving at 8:20 and departing at 14:50. I want to do the tour, do I have to arrange for a visa at the Dubai Embassy in South Africa and go through all the trouble and costs just for 1.45 hours?

  7. admin says:

    Hi Kevin,

I would imagine that this would be cutting it very fine indeed although it may be worthwhile checking with Big Bus Tours in Dubai directly to see what they recommend.

Follow the link in the paragraph above or the one at the end of this sentence for more infomation and to book your Dubai Big Bus tour.

I will be arriving in Dubai on one flight at 5.40 a.m. and departing on another at 11.20 a.m. If I took a 9.00 a.m. departure Dubai City Tour for “approximately 1.45 hours” (I take it that means 1 hour 45 minutes rather than 1 hour 27 minutes) would I be back at the airport in comfortable time for check-in and boarding the 11.20 flight? I suspect it would be a rush, but I would like your advice.

  9. admin says:

    Hi Brian,

Unfortunately not as the first Dubai City Tour Bus departs at 9.00 am and the Dubai City Tour lasts 1.45 hours.

    For future reference:

Dubai Bus Tours run every 20 minutes (October to April) and 30 minutes (May to September) on both the Dubai City Tour (Red Route) and the Dubai Beach Tour (Blue route). The first bus is at 9.00 am and the last departure is 5.00pm. Timings are subject to change so please check with Big Bus staff direct before making a booking.

A complete circuit on the Dubai City Tour (Red Route) takes approximately 1.45 hours and a complete circuit on the Dubai Beach Tour (Blue Route) takes approximately 2.35 hours. Please remember to allow extra time if you plan to hop-on, hop-off on your Dubai Bus Tour.

    Regards
