Dubai International Airport is the main airport of the Emirate of Dubai which is the largest city in the United Arab Emirates. It is situated in the district of Al Garhoud which lies around 4km or 2.5 miles southeast of Dubai city centre. The airport handles close to 90 million passengers, 2.65 million tonnes of cargo and registers over 400,000 aircraft movements every year!
As the world's busiest airport in regards to international passenger traffic, Dubai DXB is also the 5th busiest in the world by passenger traffic and has the largest solar energy system in the region as part of Dubai's goal to reduce 30% of the city energy consumption by 2030.
Dubai International is where the home base for Emirates is located which actually handles around 50 percent of all passenger traffic. The dedicated Emirates hub at Terminal 3 with their 3 concourses is the largest within the Middle East & Africa which they share with budget carrier Flydubai also has their base at the airport which handles close to 15% of passenger traffic and 25% of aircraft movements at Dubai DXB.
Dubai Airport (DXB) consists of 3 Terminals. Terminal 1 has just a single concourse (concourse D), Terminal 2 is separated from the other 2 main buildings and Terminal 3 is composed of Concourse A, B, and C. The cargo terminal at Dubai International is capable of handling 3 million tonnes of cargo annually and there is also a general aviation terminal (GAT).
Dubai International Airport deals with approximately 6,500 weekly flights operated by 140 airlines to over 250 destinations across every continent.
